If your packaging does not absorb the impact energy, but simply holds its shape, a fragile item will get microcracks even in the first warehouse. That is why professional packaging does not imply rigidity, but the ability to deform and return to shape.

Most breakages occur not due to impact, but due to vibration and compression of the cargo. How to ship fragile items depends on three factors: internal cushioning, box rigidity and correct labeling.

What materials to choose: the difference between economy and express

If you choose economy shipping, your cargo will travel longer and be subjected to more handling, so the packaging should be as strong as possible. Express shipping takes less time to travel, but the sorting terminals work faster, which also creates shocks. Therefore, for economy, it is worth adding 30–40% more shock-absorbing material than for express shipping.

For packing fragile items for shipping you will need:

• Bubble wrap (with bubbles inside)
• A box with walls at least 2 cm thick
• PVC-based tape (not stationery)
• Filler (paper honeycomb or foam) 

The best way to ship fragile items is to combine two layers of protection. For example, wrap a cup with film, and fill the cavities inside with crumpled paper.

How to pack glass, electronics and large items: step by step

For a glass or vase:

For a laptop or tablet:
